It was probably discovered before 1654, but Charles Messier classified it in 1764. M33 is a prominent Spiral galaxy in our local group. It is approaching us at a speed of 182km/s.
It contains Diffuse Nebulae and a number of knots in its spiral arms have been assigned their own NGC numbers.
