The Moon, in latin Luna, is Earth’s natural satellite. It makes a complete orbit around Earth in 27 days, 7 hours and 43 minutes, while maintaining an average distance of about 238,000 miles. It is the only celestial body on which human has set foot on.
A Planet, as defined by the International Astronomical Union, is a “celestial body orbiting a star or stellar remnant that is massive enough to be rounded by its own gravity, not massive enough to cause thermonuclear fusion, and has clear its neighboring region of planetesimals”. Our solar system is composed of 8 planets: Mercury, Venus, our beloved Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, with Jupiter being the biggest (318 Earth masses) and Mercury the smallest (0.055 Earth masses).
